Dubai has become the first city in the Middle East and 24th in the world to be appointed ‘Unesco Creative City of Design'. The city has joined an elite list of members on Unesco's Creative Cities Network(UCCN). The news comes on the back of another major announcement - a four-year plan that will focus on increasing its support for the creative fields.

The UCCN was created in 2004 to promote cooperation with and among cities that have identified creativity as a strategic factor for sustainable urban development. The Network complies with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which includes 'making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable’ and identifies culture and creativity as one of the essential levers for action in this context.

Dubai's new initiatives will include the Dubai National Design Centre, Dubai Creative City of Design, Innovation for Public Service Transformation and more.
