The new Jameel Arts Centre is all set to open its doors on November 11th this year. The new expansion will be located in the evergrowing Dubai Creek. Art Jameel is a non-profit Saudi initiative. The new space will be used to exhibit artworks commissioned by the Abraaj Group Art Prize from 2009-2018. Thirty artists from Menasa will also loan their work long term to the new centre. These loans will include works by Wael Shawky, Jananne Al-Ani, and Lawrence Abu Hamdan who won the 2018 Abraaj Art Award

The space will be a wonderful way to enjoy the commissions from participating artists in the Abraaj Group Art Prize, as well as an opportunity to see the development of the prize over the years.

Designed by UK architects Serie Architects the building will consist of approximately 10,000 sq meters. There will be a library, open-access research space, exhibition space, outdoor sculpture area, as well as a venue for events.

For the opening, the ground and second floors will hold five solo shows by artists from the Abraaj Group Art Prize collection. Over the first floor, an international guest curator will put on a group show. More details and the identity of the curator will be announced after the summer. These shows will continue into March 2019.

As we look forward to a new creative hub developing in Dubai, we are sure the new centre will benefit local creative's, art students, as well as the general population.
