Acclaimed Palestinian singer Omar Kamal will perform at the Dubai Opera for one evening on 15 December 2019. After the success of his 2017/18 tour of his debut album ‘Serenade’, the smooth-voiced star presents his new show – Show Me the Light.
Born in 1992 in Nablus, Omar Kamal spent his early years listening to classical and world music and playing the piano since he was nine years old. At the age of fourteen, he attended an international music festival in Germany, where he was introduced to the world of classical music. Since then, Omar’s love for classical music intensified by taking up violin lessons before deciding to focus on vocals and piano, which led him to find a more contemporary sound. Omar’s multi-cultural influences have given him a rich taste in music ranging from Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, to Arabic idols such as Mohammed Abdel Wahab, Fairuz, Umm Kulthum and even modern trendsetters like The Weekend.
During his university years, Omar was the lead vocalist of the University’s Big Band. He toured the UK and participated in competitions, and thus decided that music was his ultimate passion. In a local concert back to Palestine, Omar caught the eyes of Sony Music Middle East, and signed a multi-year recording and management contract in late 2014.
Known as the Palestinian Frank Sinatra, Omar very often experiments with his music and adds new sounding elements which all adds to the uniqueness of his own sound. Making his Dubai Opera debut, he will once again enthrall the audience with his stage presence and smooth voice. Expect to be taken on a long and winding musical journey, with arrangements from all sorts of genres and eras.
