Dubai Opera Announces Anniversary Concerts

Since opening its doors in 2016, Dubai Opera has become a symbol of Dubai and one of its premiere tourist destinations, with over 650 performances and events presented in the past 36 months, attracting over 625,000 visitors.

The iconic multi-format platform celebrates its third milestone anniversary with eight new show announcements including: Omar Kamal, Broken Wings, Katherine Jenkins, Camille Thomas, Dial M for Murder, The Greatest Love of All, Bjorn Again and La Traviata.

Omar Kamal (pictured above) has a voice that transcends borders and decades. His honest, pure power and capacity for connection is the same genius that has defined the career of the greatest singing legends – influences felt in his eclectic catalogue and captivating performances from Sinatra’s jazz and swing to timeless Arab idols like Mohammed Abdel Wahab and Fairouz. Kamal brings together stunning repertoires and emotional hits for one enchanting evening.

Broken Wings 17 - 18 January 2020

An autobiographical account of Kahlil Gibran’s first love, Broken Wings is a musical adaptation of the iconic poet’s 1912 masterpiece. This moving new musical is written by Middle Eastern duo Nadim Naaman and Dana Al Fardan, directed by Bronagh Lagan and produced by Ali Matar with orchestrations by Joe Davison. The events of Broken Wings highlight key issues of the time, yet the themes and debates raised remain increasingly relevant today, over a century later; the fight for gender equality, the freedom to love who we love, tradition versus modernity, wealth versus happiness, immigration and the importance of ‘home’.

La Traviata 19 - 21 March 2020

Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata is one of the cornerstones of the operatic repertory and remains a favourite for singers and listeners alike. This iconic opera, by the National Opera of Ukraine named after Taras Shevchenko, features a score filled with incredible melodies, and some of the most difficult arias in the soprano repertoire. With a tense plot and vivid characters paired with Verdi’s perfectly attuned music there won’t be a dry eye in the house. La Traviata is also, most famously, the opera that Richard Gere takes Julia Roberts to see in Pretty Woman.


Dial M for Murder 7 - 11 April 2020

A brand-new production of the blueprint for the modern thriller, Dial M for Murder. TV and stage favourite, Tom Chambers, (Top Hat, Strictly Come Dancing) stars as the charismatic and manipulative Tony Wendice, a jaded ex-tennis pro who has given it all up for his wife Margot. When he discovers she has been unfaithful his mind turns to revenge and the pursuit of the ‘perfect crime’. The Greatest Love of All 16 - 18 April 2020

Dubai Opera, in partnership with Broadway Entertainment Group, is proud to present, The Greatest Love of All, a critically acclaimed live concert honouring the talent, music and memory of Whitney Houston. Featuring the breath-taking vocals of Belinda Davids, this is a beautifully crafted homage to one of the world’s most revered singers. This two-hour production will fill you with joy, nostalgia and wonderment as you are taken on a heartfelt musical journey through Houston’s greatest hits including I Will Always Love You, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, How Will I Know, One Moment in Time, I Have Nothing, Run to You, Didn’t We Almost Have It All, Greatest Love of All, I’m Every Woman, Queen of the Night, and more.

The upcoming season’s line-up will feature something for everyone, from opera, to modern dance drama, comedy, classical music concerts, musicals, theatre, world music, jazz, and much more.
