George Frideric Handel was a German Baroque composer who wrote a series of immortal melodies over three centuries ago. Now, Dubai Opera is all set to present Handel’s best-loved oratorio 'Messiah' in its entirety for one performance only on December 8.
The concert will be performed by the St. Petersburg Tchaikovsky Theater of Ballet Orchestra and the Dubai Opera Festival Chorus. The brilliant new local choir and internationally-renowned orchestra will combine to perform this most famous oratorio in a festive treat for the whole family, bringing together 200 musicians and voices for a spectacular occasion.
The Dubai Opera Festival Chorus comprises some 150 voices all based in the UAE and was specially-created earlier this year to appear in the BBC Proms Dubai, which they did to critical acclaim with a performance of Beethoven’s Ninth. For many choirs around the world, Handel’s Messiah is another piece at the heart of the choral repertoire and the performance is regularly a high point of the year.
For this special event, the recently formed Dubai Opera Festival Chorus will come together with the St. Petersburg Tchaikovsky Theater of Ballet Orchestra, conducted by Andrei Danilo.
Since its triumphant premiere in Dublin in 1742, Messiah has remained Handel’s most frequently performed work and is a favourite with audiences around the world. The composition began on August 22, 1741, and was completed in just 24 days.
Tickets start from AED175, with an early bird discount of 20% available on VIP and Platinum until 5 May.
