Cinema Akil Will Kickstart 2019 With These Awesome Films

Dubai's independent film platform 'Cinema Akil' will kickstart 2019 with an excellent selection of films screened from its newly opened cinema in Alserkal Avenue. 

The list of films include RBG, a critically-acclaimed feature documentary based on one of the most indispensable figures in history, dubbed the “Notorious R.B.G.”.

Followed by the 2018 SXSW Grand Jury Prize Winner THUNDER ROAD. Directed by Jim Cummings, this comedic drama was inspired by the song “The Ballad of Thunder Road” by Robert Mitchum and features a raw performance by Cummings himself.

Cinema Akil will also release the twentieth episode of Japanese anime series - DRAGON BALL SUPER: BROLY (Doragon bôru chô: Burorî ) and the captivating documentary GOD CHILDREN directed by Dubai-based filmmaker Reshel Shah, 

The Reel Palestine is also back at Cinema Akil and will kick off with its biggest programme to date, bringing you more than two screenings per day, talks, a vibrant market of Palestinian crafts and flavour and some more surprises.

RBG

The documentary features interviews with Gloria Steinem, President Bill Clinton, Harryette Helsel, Kelly Sullivan, Nina Totenberg.

 

THUNDER ROAD

Thunder Road follows a Texan police officer who loses his mother, custody of his daughter, and eventually his job. Inspired by one of the greatest songs ever written, we see officer Jim Arnaud apply this lullaby of his mother's to his life during his ongoing and often hilarious nervous breakdown.

 

DRAGON BALL SUPER: BROLY (Doragon bôru chô: Burorî )

GOD CHILDREN

In rural villages of India, children born with a specific birth defect may be transformed overnight into a Hindu God, becoming an incarnation and a beacon of hope to the people around them.
