SIMA Performing Arts in collaboration with STIKK - Performing Arts Hub Norway and choreographic platform GRIP (BE) is all set to host 'TIDE' a progressive movement & sound performance at SIMA in Alserkal Avenue on December 8.
TIDE is an ongoing exchange between Icelandic dancer and choreographer Bára Sigfúsdóttir and Norwegian composer and trumpet player Eivind Lønning. After years of developing unique personal methods of incorporating improvisation with structured frameworks, Bára and Eivind combined their research to create TIDE, a piece where music and dance merge together into one experience.
The duo has performed in various venues and festivals around the world including Belgium, Netherlands, France and Iran. The performance will be a structured improvisation where acting and responding in the present is equally important to the prepared foundation of the structure of the piece. This allows both protagonists on stage to fully explore all possible variations simultaneously while communicating to the audience more freely.
"We are excited to open our performing arts program with 'TIDE', it is our first international co-operation and guest performance" said SIMA Founder Alaa Krimed. "As a venue, we aim to enrich the cultural life in Dubai by showcasing high-quality artistic works which would fill in the empty niche of genre variety." he added. "We are working on a program which offers our audience local, regional and international works in different styles of dance and theatre united by a contemporary artistic expression."
A workshop will be held by Bára Sigfúsdóttir prior to the performance.
