The International Day for Tolerance is an annual observance declared by the United Nations in 1995. The aim is to educate individuals on the dangers of intolerance towards beliefs, practices, race and other differences. It is observed every year on November 16.
This year Dubai will host its first-ever World Tolerance Summit (WTS) from November 15 to 16. The event is organized by the International Institute for Tolerance (IIT), a part of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives.
The WTS will also unveil the 'Tolerance Awards', this recognition is said to be conferred upon government and industry leaders, artists, cultural figures, and others that promote tolerance on a regional and global scale. Other activities at the event include workshops, an art and photography exhibition and the launch of a Tolerance Library.
