Louvre Abu Dhabi has announced a series of film screenings every Saturday of the summer starting 23 June. Titled ' Cinem'Art' the aim is to create dialogue between cinema and selected artworks from Louvre Abu Dhabi’s temporary and permanent exhibitions.
Films include Shiraz a 1928 silent film, directed by Franz Olsen. The story is based around the circumstances leading up to the commissioning of the Taj Mahal. Previously a lost film treasure 'Shiraz' was restored from original film elements in 2017.
Another highlight is Paa Joe and The Lion which tells the story of a father-son relationship and illustrates the life-changing impact of an artist residency. The screenings end with UAE stories - a collection of six short films made by young filmmakers in the UAE. Cinem’Art is curated by local artist Hind Mezaina and admission is free.
