Alserkal Avenue has announced their summer programme for 2018 and there are a few unique events. FIERCE!, a film programme by Cinema Akil, will screen films dedicated to ‘the women who shook the ground they stood on’, the Junction returns with popular sell out plays and Culinary concept INKED will hold two of their popular original pop-ups that include breakfast with a DJ playing old school hip hop music, and a ’10 hands’ chefs’ dinner. There are also a number of summer camps for kids that include art, photography and dance.
Summer highlights include:
14 July – 15 September
Sensing Memory will draw from the UAE’s creative community and beyond for a series of events, including: a workshop exploring perfume’s potential to trigger memory of loved ones; tai chi lessons to tune participants into their bodies and senses; a lecture and workshop exploring traditional building materials from the UAE; an astronomy lecture exploring the cosmos through storytelling and different civilisations; and a book club reading the first volume of Marcel Proust’s In Search of Lost Time.

Mian, Biwi aur Wagah : 6-7 July - This Urdu play returns to The Junction for its 3rd run after selling out in both its previous runs.
12-14 July - Catch the best 10-minute plays from past Short+Sweet festivals
20-21 July - Roland meets Marianne at a barbecue. She’s a physicist, he’s a beekeeper. They are an unlikely match, but this is not your average boy-meets-girl love story. Multiverse theory is explored through the infinite possibilities of a single relationship.

27 July - Arnaud the magician is back by popular demand!
Gruesome Playground Injuries
16-18 August - Over the course of 30 years, the lives of Kayleen and Doug intersect at the most bizarre intervals, leading the two childhood friends to compare scars and the physical calamities that keep drawing them together.
30 August – 1 September - Two sets of parents meet to discuss a fight between two of their children in the playground, only to have the discussion deteriorate as they indulge in blame and rancour of their own. Presented by Orb Theatricals.
Pop-ups at INKED
Creative culinary concept INKED will host two pop-ups over the summer. A breakfast meets music pop-up on 13 & 14 July will see a DJ playing old-school hip-hop music. The ’10 hands dinner’ is a chef collaboration where five chefs will work together to create an eight-course dinner around the five elements. This will take place form 28 - 31 July.
