YouTube Music and its paid counterpart, YouTube Music Premium was just launched in five markets. The U.S, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and South Korea. The next round of release will be Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. So what is YouTube Music and why should we care?
YouTube has been working on this concept for a while now and a beta version was initially released in 2015. According to the company’s blog, YouTube Music, is a new music streaming service made for music with the magic of YouTube: making the world of music easier to explore and more personalized than ever.”
YouTube Music also features a new AI that does something unique. The apps new feature called Your Mixtape will feature a collection automatically created from music compiled from favorite artists, songs frequently listened to, and new recommendations. The best part is it automatically downloads to your phone for offline listening. This means YouTube is all set to take on streaming giants like Apple Music and Spotify.
Effect on Streaming
Imagine you could stream the largest library of music videos, their numerous covers and radio services all from one spot. That is exactly what YouTube Music promises to do. Youtube also guarantees lyrics and other resources to music all neatly packaged in one app.
MENA music streaming
Last week we wrote about music streaming in the middle east and how Spotify's entry could make all the difference. With the current developments it seems that although Youtube Music is a relatively new platform in the industry there is no denying that YouTube is arguably the largest digital music platform in the world. Could we see Spotify and YouTube entering the MENA region at the same time? How will this shape our local industry? Only time will tell.
