The Museum of the Future is a unique incubator for futuristic innovation and design. It will be located in the Emirates Towers area near Sheikh Zayed road. The Structure is currently under construction and is set to open in 2019. Heres what we know so far.
What is the museum?
Visitors to the museum will experience the future through cutting-edge simulations and interactive demonstrations. The Museum will also host a group of innovation labs focusing on health, education, smart cities, energy and transport in addition to a permanent section on future innovations in all fields. It will provide a platform to demonstrate and test the latest inventions from world-leading tech giants and up-and-coming start-ups. Collaborations with research institutes and universities are also on its agenda.
Design team and Inspiration
Architect Shaun Killa is the designer of a museum. You may remember his Dubai based firm 'Killa Design' from the recently completed construction of the Office of the Future, the world’s first fully functional and permanently occupied ‘3D printed’ building.
Inspiration for the torus shape of the museum comes from Fen Shui. The round shape represents the earth and the sky and the empty space in between represents the unknown.
The structure will incorporate major sections built using 3D printing construction techniques. The Arabic calligraphy on the building is more than just meaningful design because the text will also serve as windows. Overall, an estimated 890 stainless steel and fiberglass panels will make up the exterior structure of the museum.
