Cinema Akil X Alserkal Avenue

Cinema Akil in collaboration with Alserkal Avenue have released their film programme for this Ramadan season. All films will begin at 9:30 pm and screened at the A4 Space Cinema Room in Al Serkal Avenue. Note that all fims are free to attend and attendance is on a first-come/seated basis.


30 May - LIFE (Animated). Directed By Roger Ross Williams

The inspirational story of Owen Suskind, a young man who was unable to speak as a child until he and his family discovered a unique way to communicate by immersing themselves in the world of classic Disney animated films. This emotional coming-of-age story follows Owen as he graduates to adulthood and takes his first steps toward independence.


6 JUNE - MADAYEN, Directed By Ayman Tamano

An indie found footage style film out of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia written and produced by Hakeem Jomah and directed by Ayman Tamano. Madayen tells the tale of three young Saudis who set out to the notoriously haunted Madayen Saleh ruins to the far north of the Kingdom to investigate the myths and the truths behind the cursed place.


13 JUNE - FOOD EVOLUTION Directed By Scott Hamilton Kennedy

Amid a brutally polarised debate marked by passion, suspicion, and confusion, Food Evolution explores the controversy surrounding GMOs and food. Traveling from Hawaiian papaya groves, to banana farms in Uganda, to the cornfields of Iowa, the film wrestles with the emotions and the science driving both sides of one of the most heated arguments of our time.
