For the very first time, a watercolor festival will be a part of the creative season in Dubai. The festival will be held from the 22nd – 25th February at the American University in Dubai (AUD) and Cartoon Gallery in Al Quoz.
The festival has been organized in collaboration with a number of watercolor masters, emerging artists using the medium, and the UAE branch of the International Watercolor Society (IWS UAE).
It will feature workshops held by artists proficient in the medium. The workshops are a great opportunity for anyone looking to try watercolor painting for the first time or brush up on existing skills. There will also be free live presentations, and plein-air painting sessions, some of which will be led by the master watercolor painter Alvaro Castagnet.
Another, exciting aspect of the festival will be the creation of a 50-meter long painting, with all the participating artists contributing. Watercolor is usually a medium that keeps to a smaller canvas than its contemporaries "oil" and "acrylic" paint, it will be interesting to see how the artists collaborate and the result of their ambitious work.
The festival will also present an exhibition of over 300 paintings created specifically for the worldwide competition organized by IWS UEA. All these paintings were created to fulfill the competition brief and the topics "happiness" and/ or the "UAE". The winning paintings by Ali Sajd international category and Bonny Matthew will be displayed at the event.
If you still haven’t had enough watercolor painting by the end of the festival, there will be a painting tour exploring various sites across the UAE from the 26th February – 1st March. The tour will be a great way to discover more about the UAE outside of Dubai, learn about UAE history, culture, and heritage. Not forgetting an opportunity to enjoy plein-air painting along the way.
The Exhibitions at the AUD and Cartoon Art Gallery will remain open until the 1st March.
