Pantone Color Of The Year Announced

Dec 23,2017

For those involved in the design world the Pantone color of the year announcement is somewhat of an event. The institute has unveiled the dynamic purple tone – Ultra Violet as their pick for 2018

The Pantone Colour Institute has been choosing a color of the year since 1999. For this year the institute has citied inspiration from highly original musicians like Prince and Jimi Hendrix. It has also stated that the color will have a lasting impact in our everyday lives since large tech and business companies like NBC, Instagram and Twitch have adapted the color as part of their brand identity.

Pantone had the following to say:

Enigmatic purples have also long been symbolic of counterculture, unconventionality, and artistic brilliance. Musical icons Prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix brought shades of Ultra Violet to the forefront of western pop culture as personal expressions of individuality. Nuanced and full of emotion, the depth of PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet symbolizes experimentation and non-conformity, spurring individuals to imagine their unique mark on the world, and push boundaries through creative outlets- Pantone
