14th Dubai International Film Festival Set To Open

Love film? Well we have good news for you. The 14th edition of the Dubai International Film Festival (Diff) is due to open on the 6th December and will run until the 13th.

The festival will consist of a multitude of film screenings, red carpet screenings, awards and other special events bringing a plethora of remarkable films and celebrities to Dubai. The films have been chosen from across the world and will offer a unique opportunity in Dubai to see the work of a wide range of international directors, on the big screen.

The festival opens with a screening of The Hostiles by Director Scott Cooper, starring actor Christian Bale. The American period western is thetale of a U.S Cavalry officer who has reluctantly agreed to escort a Cheyenne war chief and his family back to their homelands. On the journey the extent of his (Bale) prejudiceis revealed and challenged.

The festival will end with a screening of the much-awaited Star Wars: the Last Jedi.

Screened in between these giants will be a diverse milieu of films with some fantastic films to watch out for such as The Shape of Water, The Death of Stalin and Egyptian drama Withered Green.

Two lifetime awards will be given, one to Sir Patrick Steward and one to Irrfan Khan, with an honorary award being given to Egyptian Wahid Hamed.

Alongside ticketed film screenings and red-carpet events at venues such as the Madinat Arena and VOX Mall of the Emirates, film goers can also catch free film screenings at "The Beach". The laid-back atmosphere of the beach is a great way to enjoy some of the festivities if you have missed out on getting tickets to some of the films you want to see, or if you want to prioritise your budget.

The Muhr awards should also not be missed. The awards will feature an impressive selection of films and promises to be a tightly run race. A wonderful initiative in its twelfth year, the award seeks to provide opportunity to young and emerging film-makers from the Arab world. Watch out for Darkness is a Color by Saudi Mujtaba Saeed and Sabyea by Iraqi-Belgian Dhyaa Joda.

 Diff has been and will continue to pioneer film screening in the region through the Diff365 initiative. Giving independent films screen time at the VOX cinema, Mall of the Emirates.
