The Abu Dhabi art is all set to return for its ninth edition at Manarat Al Saadiyat on Saadiyat Island. The exhibition is organized by the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority and will run from November 8 to 11. The programme will include various events from art installation and exhibitions to curatorial talks and workshops. Here we look at some of the main programmes included in the fair this year.
Beyond: Artist Commissions
The new initiative will introduce artist commissions for both Manarat Al Saadiyat and historic sites throughout the Emirate. For 2017, established contemporary artists, Manal Al Dowayan, Magdi Mostafa and Nasser Al Salem have been commissioned to make works for this initiative.
Beyond: Emerging Artists
The project will see three emerging UAE-based artists undertake a tailor-made programme created for them by guest curators for Abu Dhabi Art. At the end of the programme the artists will be commissioned to create works that will be revealed at Abu Dhabi Art 2017 and that will be in exhibition for an additional three months afterwards. Beyond: Emerging Artists is dedicated to supporting and providing opportunities for UAE artists.
A curated exhibition that will remain on display after the November dates and will draw curatorial connections between established UAE artists and their international peers.
Durab Al Tawaya
The programme will see site-specific performances throughout Abu Dhabi Art and in different locations throughout the city. The title of the programme is inspired by the long paths (durub in Arabic) taken across the desert; tawaya which refers to underground water springs and to taway, which denotes layers of meaning in classical Arabic, and stands for ideas and values that are revealed as they unfold
Street Art will also be part of the event at selected zones in Abu Dhabi.
