This year organized in association with Monda Gallery, Photography LIVE's annual photo contest features four submission categories designed to reflect on the UAE’s life and beauty, and four categories designed to reflect on the Middle East and the World. With over US$ 10,000 worth of prizes and a huge amount of professional exposure to be won, this marks a fantastic opportunity for passionate photographers to participate. Winners will be announced at the Photography LIVE exhibition, taking place in Festival Arena, Dubai, from 4-6 May.
In the lead up to EXPO 2020, when the eyes of the world will be on Dubai, Photography LIVE is looking for entries which capture the spirit of the city and the nation. Categories focussed on this theme include Life in the UAE, Cityscapes of the UAE, Landscapes of the UAE and Animals and Wildlife of the UAE, alongside categories covering the Middle East and the rest of the world as well as digitally manipulated photographs.
Contest organizers hope to encourage local artists to look to the region and capture its beauty in a celebration of local culture and heritage. The aims of the contest therefore mirror the aims of the city of Dubai. As Dubai Culture says in its vision statement, part of achieving the Dubai Strategic Plan 2021 is, “establishing the city as vibrant, global Arabian metropolis that shapes culture and arts in the region and the world.”
The competition will be judged by 5 leaders in Dubai’s photography world, including Emmy Award-nominated cinematographer and photographer Beno Saradzic and founder of the Monda Gallery Etienne van denPeereboom. They are looking to bring recognition and exposure to talented photographers whose work displays aesthetic attractiveness, originality, distinctiveness, technical achievement and tells a story. Van denPeereboom comments, “Some of our best-selling pictures were authored by photographers who were still thinking of themselves as beginner-photographers when we started collaborating. But their personal aesthetical sense was already embedded in their work, ready to resonate with customers. Sometimes, one’s work is already more unique than it may feel like”.
The 2017 Photography LIVE event in Dubai will feature a gallery of over 100 pictures displaying winning and selected shortlisted photos alongside an exhibition of leading international photographers curated by Dubai’s Monda Gallery. The winners will also have their pictures exhibited at Sofitel Dubai the Palm Resort & Spa from May to September 2017. In addition, US$ 10,000 worth of prizes have been offered by Nikon, NiSi Camera Filters, Crumpler bags, Sofitel Dubai the Palm Resort and Spa, and Monviso Water including vouchers, camera accessories and brunch passes.
