Andakulova Gallery in Dubai is a platform for contemporary artists from Central Asia. Founded by Natalya Andakulova in 2012 the goal of this gallery has always been to bridge the artistic boundaries of Central Asia and the Middle East. It also holds the unique distinction of being the only active gallery in the world that focuses exclusively on Central Asian art.
“Our gallery represents a roster of over twenty emerging and established contemporary artists" says Irina Bourmistrova curatorial director of Andakulova Gallery.
The Gallery is currently hosting its first all-female exhibition “Neither a shouting match nor a polite droning” and will showcase a selection of different practices of female artists from Kazakhstan’s old and new capital cities Almaty and Astana.
“We have exciting exhibitions lined up during the year adds “Ms Bourmistrova. Our next feature in March will showcase the works of Said Atabekov.
Titled 66 Lbs by Said Atabekov the exhibition will feature photo, video and site-specific installation that is based on an ancient nomadic tradition of Kazakhstan - the game of Kokpar. The title 66 Lbs comes from the mandatory weight of the animal carcass. Kokpar is also expected to be a star attraction when Astana hosts Expo 2017.
